Instructor:  Amanda Lacklen

Amanda manages over $28.5 million in grant funds across five programs, four grants, and a dedicated team of nine. In September 2025, she spearheaded and co-hosted the nation’s first Continuing Medical Education (CME) course on Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) with the Delaware Academy of Medicine and the Delaware Public Health Association, drawing more than 180 virtual attendees. This CME focused on the importance of analyzing blood serum results for PFAS to help prevent various cancers and other negative health impacts. She also hosted the EPA Region 3 Radon Conference — the first time Delaware has hosted this regional event. Looking ahead, Amanda and her team will launch a new Private Well Program and a PFAS Research Study in January 2026.

Amanda sits on the Delaware Strategic Planning Committee for PFAS Remediation and the DNREC-DHSS Fish Advisory Committee. Amanda is also an active member of both the American Chemical Society and the Algae Biomass Organization. As the Senior Environmental Scientist IV for the Office of Environmental Hazards and Toxicology, Amanda manages the following programs: Radon, Healthy Homes, Clean Indoor Air Act, Private Wells, and Emerging Contaminants for Small and Disadvantaged Communities (EC-SDC).

A passionate advocate for making the world a healthier and safer place, Amanda frequently speaks at community events and national conferences, inspiring others through education and innovation. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and caring for her rescue pets—dogs Django and Roo, and her tuxedo cat, Mr. Fitzgerald. True to her sustainability values, Amanda also grows sweet potatoes and loofah sponges, sharing her homegrown, plastic-free alternatives with friends and family.
