This classroom training session will focus upon CI mission chemicals that are used as water disinfectants (chlorine and sodium hypochlorite) along with other substances used for pH (hydrochloric acid and caustic). The training will highlight existing CI resources freely available to water treatment users and future resources. The objective is to educate end users on topics such as safe handling practices, storage, and emergency considerations.

Instructor: Daniel Stein

Daniel Stein is the Sr. Director Product Stewardship, employed by The Chlorine Institute, Inc. He has served in his current role for nearly 3 years and has primarily responsibility to staff CI’s Product Stewardship Issue Team (committee). This team focuses upon driving end user incidents related to CI’s mission chemicals to zero by creating new and improving existing resources. Daniel also works extensively on regulatory matters involving pesticides to support CI member Registrants. Daniel serves on American Water Works Association’s Disinfectants Standard Committee where he assists with Standard review/approval processes. Daniel has many years of experience presenting training / technical information to operations/maintenance technicians and engineers throughout his time in this role and previous industry.

Daniel began his career in 2011 and was employed by Dow Chemical Company and Olin Corporation where he held a variety of job roles and responsibilities. Daniel’s industry experience includes Environmental Health & Safety air and water permit compliance where he oversaw Title V Operating permits and New Source Review (NSR) air permits along with recurring NESHAP reporting compliance. Daniel has experience in small capital projects ranging to ~$2 million such as migrating process control systems and installing emission control devices to support facility capacity expansion. Daniel has experience in operating plant roles where he was certified, and responsible for on-call over reactor, distillation, and storage tank and pipeline equipment. Daniel has experience managing large railroad tank car fleets including operating, maintenance/qualification, new car build, and regulatory compliance matters.
